We understand that some ads may not align with your interests or might be considered inappropriate or upsetting. It's important to note that our game team doesn't have control over the ads, as Facebook reserves the right to choose advertisers. Additionally, there's no distinction between our game, other games, or any other area of Facebook—you might encounter similar ads across the platform.
However, you have the ability to influence the content you see. Feel free to report ads that you find displeasing, inappropriate, or upsetting. This article lists all the steps you can take to manage your ad preferences.
Table of contents can be seen below, simply click on the part which interests you:
- Manage the data about your off-Facebook activity.
- Block specific advertisers.
- Report an ad directly from the Meta Ad Library.
- Manage what data is used to show you ads.
- Adjust what ad topics are used to reach you.
━━━━━━━━
1. Manage the data about your off-Facebook activity.
Some businesses and organizations share your interactions with Facebook. For example, if you've shopped for dresses at shop X, Facebook might receive information about it to better target ads. You can check and control the data they have by clicking here. You'll have three options:
- 'Disconnect specific activity' - remove the history of your activity with a selected website or application.
- 'Clear previous activity' - remove the entire history of your activity with all websites and applications.
- 'Manage future activity' - you can either allow businesses and organizations to share your activity with Facebook, or disallow it. If you choose the latter, all new information will no longer be associated with your account, and all previous history will be cleared.
According to Facebook, you can also choose to completely opt out of your data being shared by companies like that through the Digital Advertising Alliance in the USA, the Digital Advertising Alliance of Canada in Canada, or the European Interactive Digital Advertising Alliance in Europe.
2. Block specific advertisers.
You can check the advertisers you've recently encountered and block those you don't like. To ensure you find a specific advertiser on the list, check it as soon as possible! The list doesn't go back too far. Click here to view the list. Once you identify the advertisers you wish to hide, click the 'Hide Ads' button next to them.
3. Report an ad directly from the Meta Ad Library.
The Meta Ad Library stores information about all the ads running on their platforms. Click here to access its website. Choose your location and ad category. Then, use the search bar to find the ad you wish to report. Once located, click the next to it and select 'Report ad.' Choose the reason for the report from the list. Afterward, the report will be forwarded to Meta.
4. Manage what data is used to show you ads.
Advertisers may use various information about you to tailor their target audience. You have control over what details are used for ad targeting. Click here to manage your preferences across four categories:
- Activity information from ad partners.
- Categories used to reach you.
- Audience-based advertising.
- Ads shown outside of Meta.
Adjust your preferences for each category by clicking on it. Read the informational window that pops up upon clicking a category, and specify your preferences.
5. Adjust what ad topics are used to reach you.
Facebook selects ad topics based on your activity that might interest you. Click here to specify your preferences for various ad topics. Once the website opens, simply click the 'View and manage topics' button. You'll see a list of ad topics used to reach you. Click on each of them to specify your preference, indicating whether you wish to see more of such ads, less, or if you don't have any preference.
You can see a step-by-step example for the 'Home interior design' ad topic below.
